Eyes
"Hello" you say, staring right through me,
"Hello" I answer.
Smile a smile that doesn't reach your eyes,
ask a question that has an answer you're not interested in.
Stand close enough to be so far away.
"Hello" you say, staring intently at my ear,
almost as if they were my eyes.
Speak to me - not listening to me,
speaking to you.
Laugh at something that i have cried over
& walk,
walk away, waving,
while i mourn the death of a relationship
you think is still alive.
"Hello" you say, pushing hair out of my eyes,
running your fingers down my cheek.
"Hello" i answer,
although i know you're not really interested.
"hello" i say to the room you've left empty,
backhand waving cheerily,
oblivious
to the lifeless, lifeless eyes.
